Stuttgart Animal Clinic - Stuttgart VTF is a limited service veterinary clinic whose primary mission is to provide medical care to the dogs of the 100th MWD Detachment, as well as to control zoonotic diseases (transmitted from animals to humans). Private pet care may be provided subject to availability.

Living with a pet in Germany can be beneficial as many local businesses allow well-behaved dogs into their establishments.
There are exceptions: dogs are not allowed in grocery stores, butchers and other stores that sell fresh food. Some Konditerei or cafes do not allow them either. In areas where your dog is not allowed, a small sign will be taped to the window. It usually shows a picture of a dog and something like "Wir müssen leider daraussen warten" (unfortunately we have to wait outside).
Owners must pick up their pets in public areas. Some parks and trails will have bag dispensaries, but owners should be in the habit of taking care of their own bags. If the pet is not successful, especially in areas where people walk and children play, a fine may be issued.

In the European Union, an EU pet passport has been created, which contains records of the pet's vaccinations. As long as vaccinations are up-to-date and all necessary information is included, this passport allows the pet to move easily with the owner in most EU countries. EU pet passports are highly recommended as they greatly simplify the holiday travel process and help reduce stress. You can get an official EU Blue Passport for your pet at a clinic in the host country.

When traveling in a car with your pets, they must be kept securely in the back seat or in the luggage compartment, as pets are not allowed to ride in the front seat.
It is important for American workers to understand that traditionally in Germany pets are extensively trained in obedience. A pet is often expected to be as disciplined and quiet as a well-behaved child, and in Germany an unruly pet is looked down upon.
Additionally, leash laws and other pet laws in Germany can be more extensive and vary by city or county. Unless the dog is very well trained, he or she must remain on a leash at all times. Dogs are allowed off-leash when walking in non-public areas and residential areas (ie in parks or walking in the woods), but dogs must be immediately put on a lead or called to the hands when they go outside other areas.

If your pet has been seen at our facility or another military facility in the past year and has been prescribed medication or food, you can request a refill by calling or visiting our facility. Please allow a grace period of at least 14 business days for out-of-stock medication and food orders to be delivered at the time of your request. After filling the prescription and notifying the owner, it must be returned within 14 days.
A pet passport can only be obtained through off-base veterinarians and not through VTF Stuttgart. However, we can update them with the vaccines we give, so be sure to bring them to your appointments. They are necessary when traveling within EU countries. Each country may have its own rules, so be sure to check before planning a trip with your pet. Owning a pet in government housing is a privilege and can be revoked if your pet is causing a disturbance and/or a threat to other residents or animals. For more information about pet ownership on base, click the link.
If you decide to see your pet at our facility, you must register it before making an appointment. Simply complete our registration form and provide a copy of your pet's most recent vaccination record, especially for rabies.
Unless it is a new pet that has yet to be vaccinated or records have been lost, in which case vaccines can be re-administered.
You can find the registration form on this page, in the "Services provided" drop-down menu "Animal registration". You can also find it on our Facebook page, by visiting our clinic during regular business hours, or by email. You do not need to register for the exam.

It is the pet owner's responsibility to ensure that their pet is properly vaccinated. Rabies vaccination should always be current. Our facility offers a 3-year vaccine. Up-to-date Bordetella and Distemper vaccinations are also required to board your pet at local facilities.
We strongly encourage pet owners to hire a local veterinarian to provide routine and/or emergency care for their pet if we are unable or unwilling to provide care.
