Study Military - The military and strategic studies major will prepare you to lead and operate in the entire spectrum of conflicts around the world. This program explores the uniquely challenging context of the military profession - ethics and the human face of warfare, the future of the aviation profession, comparative aviation, hybrid threats, societal and technical innovation, operational concepts, intelligence and joint military strategies. coalition and interagency operations in different cultures.

The MSS Division strengthens problem-solving and decision-making skills and prepares cadets to excel directly in the Air Force and beyond. MSS masters learn to think strategists by framing the battlefield and evaluating theories, models, and perspectives for future masterful application of military and strategic power.

During their third year (or second year), cadets choose a research topic in our research methods course. With the help of an advisor, they come up with what would become their final thesis or Cadet Combat Lab project. During their first (or senior) year, students write their thesis project under the guidance of a faculty advisor and have the opportunity to publish their findings in a peer-reviewed journal, including our Airman-Scholar Journal.

MSS masters have a variety of summer research programs and internships available; Cadets worked at Arizona State University, Air Force Special Operations School, Naval Graduate School and White Sands Missile Range.

Whether officers pursue a career in the Air Force, pursue another public service, or enter the private sector, this versatile major is directly relevant to any chosen profession and helps develop the skills and mindset to compete successfully in a changing and challenging world. . As officers face the complex operational challenges of the 21st century security environment, their strategic and creative thinking skills determine the effectiveness of an Air Force leader, and this "strategic thinking" ability will carry over into life after the Air Force.
