Study Military History - A collection of essays on the nature of history, the importance of military history, and the practical study of military history for invaders and others. The volume includes bibliographical essays on military history, descriptive accounts of the historical organization of the US military and other parts of the defense establishment, and discussion of foreign militaries and military history research in the academic world. Military history has had its ups and downs within the army. In the education of the Second World War generation of military officers, it played an important role, as the study of past operations was at the fore in the curriculum of military schools in the period between the two great world wars. In the years following World War II, it lost that position. This occurred partly because the information explosion greatly expanded the areas in which a manager needed to have knowledge, and partly because of the belief that the speed of change in technology had made the study of previous experience irrelevant. In the top schools of the military, military history became more about using examples from the past in courses about current issues.
